🍞 Moroccan Krachel – Soft Sweet Brioche Buns

Krachel are soft Moroccan sweet buns flavored with anise seeds and topped with sesame seeds. Perfect for breakfast, tea, or as a festive treat.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:

4 cups all-purpose flour

½ cup sugar

1 tsp salt

2 tsp instant yeast
-
2 tsp anise seeds
Wet Ingredients:

½ cup warm milk
-
2 large eggs
-
½ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
Topping:

1 egg (for egg wash)
-
Sesame seeds
Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Dough

In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, yeast, and anise seeds.

In a separate bowl, mix warm milk, eggs, oil, and vanilla.

Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients.

Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Cover and let rest in a warm place for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.
2️⃣ Shape the Buns

Punch down the dough.

Divide into small balls (about the size of a golf ball).

Place on a greased or parchment-lined baking tray.

Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Let rest 15–20 minutes to rise slightly.
3️⃣ Bake

Preheat oven to 180°C / 350°F.

Bake 15–20 minutes until golden brown.

Cool slightly before serving.
Tips:

For a softer texture, add 2 tbsp milk powder to the dry ingredients.

You can glaze with honey after baking for extra sweetness
