🍰 Moroccan Mille-Feuille – Ingredients & Method



Description:
Moroccan Mille-Feuille (Milfay) is a layered dessert made with crispy puff pastry and smooth vanilla cream, topped with glaze or powdered sugar. It’s popular in Moroccan bakeries and perfect for celebrations.


Ingredients

Puff Pastry Layers

  • 3 sheets puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)

Vanilla Cream Filling

  • 2 cups milk

  • 4 egg yolks

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 3 tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Topping (choose one)

  • Powdered sugar
    or

  • 1 cup powdered sugar + 2–3 tbsp milk (for glaze)

  • Melted chocolate for decoration (optional)


Instructions

1️⃣ Bake the Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C / 390°F.

  2. Place puff pastry sheets on a baking tray with parchment paper.

  3. Prick with a fork to prevent too much rising.

  4. Bake 15–20 minutes until golden and crisp.

  5. Cool completely.


2️⃣ Make the Vanilla Cream

  1. Heat milk in a saucepan until warm (not boiling).

  2. In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch.

  3. Slowly pour warm milk into the mixture while whisking.

  4. Return to heat and stir continuously until thick.

  5. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla.

  6. Cover and let cool.


3️⃣ Assemble

  1. Place one pastry sheet on a serving tray.

  2. Spread half of the cream evenly.

  3. Add second pastry layer and remaining cream.

  4. Cover with the third pastry layer.


4️⃣ Decorate

  • Dust with powdered sugar
    or spread glaze on top and decorate with chocolate lines.

  • Chill 1–2 hours before cutting for clean layers
