🍬 Traditional Moroccan Sweet (Moroccan Style “Halwa”)



A classic Moroccan dessert that’s simple, sweet, and perfect for tea or Ramadan.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup almonds (optional, chopped or ground)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom water

  • Pinch of salt

  • Honey (optional, for drizzling)


Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

2️⃣ Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and almonds (if using).

3️⃣ Cream butter and sugar
In another bowl, beat softened butter with sugar until fluffy.

4️⃣ Add egg and flavoring
Add the egg and orange blossom water to the butter mixture and mix well.

5️⃣ Combine
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Knead gently until you form a smooth, slightly soft dough.

6️⃣ Shape sweets
Form small balls or flat discs and place them on the baking tray. Press lightly on top with a fork if desired.

7️⃣ Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes until lightly golden (do not overbake).

8️⃣ Finish (optional)
Drizzle with honey while still warm or dust with powdered suga
